Designed in the 70s, the Waimea Sawmillers brand mark was outdated. 7 Design Secrets uncovered the essence of Waimea and knew ''The future is wood" was the way forward for this brand.


Waimea Sawmillers Ltd is a third generation, family-owned business processing Radiata pine and Douglas fir timber in Nelson.

After many years of successful operation they have built a solid reputation. While investigating their brand values we found a number of qualities in their business DNA that were worthy of recognition.

None of these qualities or values were reflected in their tired brand mark.
  Waimea had a sustainable and innovative approach to producing their timber solutions - they actively promote untreated Douglas fir as a natural, fit-for-purpose construction option. In addition they produce high value engineered wood and processed timber products for NZ and export markets - and they took great pleasure in telling us they were 'different' from other sawmillers.

Under their preferred name of Waimea we relaunched with a new brand mark, alongside the new positioning statement - ''The future is wood'.

We unlocked Waimea's hidden attributes, and announced them to the market:
